After Paramount+ axed their plans to stream the second season of Star Trek: Prodigy on their platform back in June 2023 (and removed the first season from their platform), many have been clamoring for the series to find a new home. Today, the crew of the U.S.S. Protostar have indeed found such a home over at Netflix.

“Thank you to our incredible Star Trek: Prodigy fans, who championed not just a show, but a community that’s always been connected by the belief that we build a better future together,” said executive producer Alex Kurtzman and co-showrunners Dan and Kevin Hageman in a statement. “We set out to inspire you, but you inspired us. The team is still hard at work on the second season, and we can’t wait to share it with the amazing fans around the world.”

The animated show is the first Star Trek series aimed at younger audiences and follows a young, ragtag crew who find an abandoned Federation starship and set off to find a better future for themselves. That Starship, the aforementioned U.S.S. Protostar, also includes a hologram of Captain Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew).

“I’ve always held that the Star Trek fan base is among the strongest and most intelligent in the world,” Mulgrew said in the same statement. “They have shown their collective passion, and we’re happy to be able to celebrate Prodigy once again.”

In addition to Mulgrew, Star Trek: Prodigy features the voices of Brett Gray (Dal), Ella Purnell (Gwyn), Rylee Alazraqui (Rok-Tahk), Angus Imrie (Zero), Jason Mantzoukas (Jankom Pog), Dee Bradley Baker (Murf), John Noble (The Diviner) and Jimmi Simpson (Drednok). Also featured in the series are recurring voice cast members Daveed Diggs (Commander Tysess), Jameela Jamil (Ensign Asencia), Jason Alexander (Doctor Noum), Robert Beltran (Captain Chakotay) and Billy Campbell (Thadiun Okona).

In terms of the rollout on Netflix, the first season of Prodigy, which previously was available on Paramount+, will become available later this year. The second season is currently in production and will debut on Netflix at a to-be-announced date in 2024.
